  • Customers in Sweden will be the first to receive free electricity by connecting to the Heartbeat IoT platform.

  • New software enables customers to participate in a pooling of batteries to stabilize the national grid, while receiving 100% of the profits.

  • 1KOMMA5° customers are among the first worldwide to potentially receive higher income from grid services than their effective electricity bill – marking a change in paradigm from consumer towards prosumers.

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, 19 October 2023 1KOMMA5°, the leading European platform for solar systems, heat pumps and EV chargers, has announced the pooling of customers’ batteries that are connected to its energy IoT solution, Heartbeat, to both stabilize the grid and generate income for customers. Homeowners participating will benefit from the tariff and potentially receive higher income from grid services than their effective electricity bill – marking a change in paradigm from consumer towards prosumers.

“The Heartbeat IoT platform is now open for all Swedish homeowners and therebye addresses millions of families who could benefit from a zero cost energy tariff for their homes,” says Philipp Schröder, global CEO and co-founder of 1KOMMA5°. “Our mission has been from day one to enable our customers to literally live on wind and sunlight forever for free and to build a cheaper and better alternative to fossil-based energy. In Sweden we are now on our way to live up to this mission.”

The first phase of the Dynamic Pulse tariff roll-out will allow homeowners in Sweden, who own a compatible 1KOMMA5° system and battery, to use the energy management system Heartbeat, which connects, operates and pools all participating customers. The pooled battery systems are connected to the energy network and support stabilizing the national grid’s frequency as needed. Sweden is the first to launch this tariff and the company has plans to expand to other markets.

“Swedish customers who opt for Dynamic Pulse will receive electricity at 0 Cent per kilowatt hour for 15.000 kWh per year, as long as their solar system and battery are connected to the Heartbeat platform. If the pool is making profit from stabilizing the grid, 100% will be distributed to all customers evenly, so it’s even possible to make money by joining our Virtual Power Plant. In any case, we are aiming for zero cost per kWh for the first full year for every customer, which makes it a  true no-brainer and risk-free for all participants,” adds Gunnar Jönsson, CEO and co-founder of 1KOMMA5° Sweden.

“Via our IoT platform, Heartbeat, we offer in Sweden a balancing service to level out frequency deviations in the power grid. The software is built to quickly adapt to market changes, with IT security and continuous program updates being essential pillars. A stable and balanced grid is crucial to avoid power outages and to ensure electricity from renewable sources such as solar and wind,” says Barbara Wittenberg, CTO of 1KOMMA5°.

Dynamic Pulse customers receive the required Heartbeat hardware free of charge, the only cost is a monthly software fee. As a next step, 1KOMMA5° is planning to extend the offering beyond batteries to compatible solar systems, EV chargers, heat pumps or even kitchen appliances, such as coolers, to further improve the potential for customers. The cleantech start-up aims to provide a pan-European platform to solar systems, heat pumps and EV chargers for private and commercial customers, aiming to fully replace 22 nuclear power plants in base load by pooling customer assets into an alternative energy community, effectively replacing conventional utilities.

About 1KOMMA5°

1KOMMA5° operates the energy IoT platform Heartbeat and a virtual power plant that pools and networks customers' photovoltaics, electricity storage, heat pumps and EV charging  columns, thus greatly increasing the profitability of networked customer systems. The company also offers a one-stop-shop for customers to buy and install individual, intelligent energy systems. It also acquires leading companies in the electrical sector with a particular focus on photovoltaic systems, charging infrastructure and heat pumps, and in return offers the entrepreneurs the use of its own software solutions, centralized services, bundled purchasing, growth capital and a reverse shareholding in 1KOMMA5° Holding. The aim is to develop a Europe-wide, market-leading hardware and software platform with a capacity to decarbonize  500,000 buildings per year to climate-neutral power generation, heat and mobility. Currently, 1KOMMA5° operates more than 65 sites with around 1,600 employees in Germany, Sweden, Finland, Italy, Denmark, Spain, and Australia.
